Gran is dead! Long live Gran Bankrott! After one EP and two LPs, DIY-jack-of-all- trades Florian Tremmel says goodbye to his solo act Gran to resurrect him in the form of Gran Bankrott. The Album- which is also the title of his debut - was created mostly by himself, except the recording of guitar and bass was done by long- term companion Philipp Forthuber and mastering was done by Gustavo Petek.

On The Album we encounter a lot of Gran’s already outstanding act in post punk circles: A skilful mix of groovy driven post punk à la Gang of Four, big poses towards Wire, enriched with synth-laden excursions into darker new wave realms and finally rounded off with a fine touch of dub, pop and funk refinements. Gran Bankrott, - now supported by Numavi Records, who are never tired passionates of the Austrian musical underground - is not the only good news: Not only the mainly German lyrics, but also some synth effects or noise loops remind of the interface of NDW and avant-garde punk, which were celebrated by Zigzag Record bands like Abwärts in the 80s. While they translate the hustle of everyday urban life - from loud gasoline engines to shrill beeping supermarket tills - Gran Bankrott leads us through the current dreariness of what is supposedly the world's most livable city, Vienna. This journey takes us past rental electric scooters that are carelessly distributed on the sidewalks by slim-fit suits, as well as through a parcours full of racing, underpaid bicycle suppliers dressed in shrill neon colors.

This LP comprises hymns for a generation of precarious people who are not quite satisfied with any of the social offers. In the hypnotizing first video extraction Raum, an ode to subcultural oases, such as the Viennese art space SSTR6, a temporary vanishing point in this misery is sketched: "this space gives applause, I rest in it". Certainly not a rescue, but at least a breather. The slogan remains: Precarious people of all countries unite and dance Dark Pogo with Gran Bankrott!

Gran ist tot! Lang lebe Gran Bankrott! Der in Wien wühlende DIY- Tausendsassa Florian Tremmel verabschiedet sich nach einer EP und zwei LPs von seinem Solo-Act Gran, um ihn in Form von Gran Bankrott wieder auferstehen zu lassen. Entstanden ist Das Album,was gleichzeitig auch der Titel des Debüts ist, wie gewohnt zu größten Teilen in Eigenproduktion, für die Aufnahme der Saiteninstrumente zeigt sich Langzeit Wegbegleiter Philipp Forthuber verantwortlich, gemastert wurde die Platte von Gustavo Petek.

Auf Das Album begegnet uns vieles von dem, was bereits Gran als Outstanding Act in Post Punk Kreisen auszeichnete. Ein gekonnter Mix aus groovig treibendem Post Punk à la Gang of Four, großen Posen Richtung mittlerer Wire, angereichert mit von Synthies getragenen Ausflügen in düsterere New-Wave-Gefilde und schlussendlich abgerundet mit einem feinen Händchen für Dub, Pop und Funk-Raffinessen. Das Gran Bankrott von Numavi Records, einem niemals müden Steckenpferd des österreichischen Musikunderground unterstützt wird, ist dabei jedoch nicht die einzige Neuigkeit. Nicht nur die hauptsächlich in Deutsch gehaltenen Texte, sondern auch so mancher Synthieffekt oder Noise-Loop erinnern an die Schnittstelle von NDW und Avantgarde Punk, die in den 80er Jahren von zickzack-Records-Bands wie Abwärts zelebrierte wurden. Während Letztgenannte die Hektik des urbanen Alltags - von lauten Benzinmotoren über schrill piepsenden Supermarktkassen in ihren Sound - übersetzen, führt uns Gran Bankrott durch die gegenwärtige Tristesse der vermeintlich lebenswertesten Stadt der Welt. Diese Reise führt uns vorbei an Mietelektrorollern die achtlos von Slim-Fit- Anzugträgern auf den Gehsteigen verteilt werden, sowie durch einen Parcours voll rasender, unterbezahlter, in schrillen Neonfarben gekleideten Fahrradlieferant*innen.

Auf dieser LP finden sich Hymnen für eine Generation Prekärer, die mit keinem der gesellschaftlichen Angebote so recht zufrieden sind. In der hypnotisierenden, ersten Videoauskopplung Raum, eine Ode an subkulturelle Oasen, wie dem Wiener Art-Space SSTR6, wird so gleich auch ein temporärer Fluchtpunkt in dieser Misere skizziert: „dieser Raum spendet Applaus, ich ruh mich in ihm aus“. Mit Sicherheit keine Rettung aber zumindest eine Verschnaufpause. Die Losung bleibt wohl: Prekäre aller Länder vereinigt euch und tanzt Dark Pogo mit Gran Bankrott!
